Episode 191, College Volleyball Weekly, Men’s D1-2 Top 15, Week 14: 4-10-23

The Coaches’ Panel prepares for the final season of regular season play, except for Dan of Lewis—who starts the MIVA Tournament on Saturday. As always, we discuss some of the eye-catching results from Week 14 and delve into AVCA poll voting. We then transition into postseason outlook and assessment by the guys.

Episode 190, College Volleyball Weekly, Beach Top 20: 4/5/23

The entire Beach crew is back-- after a Spring Break hiatus. Alan, Charlie, Kate and Rob discuss the tail end of the top 20 of both the CBVB and AVCA polls. LIterally a couple of votes separate the teams toward the back end of the top 20 and it's going to be a challenge which team will be worthy of an At-Large.

The crew also discusses the following topics of the week: TCU atop for the 4th week in a row, MoVR Ratings leaders, top performers, the East Meets West (along with top performers doing those duals), Rileigh Powers & Haley Hallgren-- UCLA's 4s who are flying below the radar!

As always, the crew finishes out with picking key duals to watch in Week 7!

Episode 189, College Volleyball Weekly, Men’s Top-15: 3/27/23

Along with the "usual suspects" of CVW, we've got special guest, Larry Wraither, Head Coach of Ft. Valley St. to chime in on the following topics of the week:

• #1 Hawaii at #12 CSUN x2 - Theo confirms, "They're (Hawaii) good."

• UR Princeton over #9 Loyola - Ben Harrington is THE REAL DEAL

• UR CUI over #5 GCU - It wasn’t Yuri, but Gage!

• BYU/Pepperdine Series in Provo - 37K Performance by Jasper, and The Miks Show

• #14 Ohio St. over #1 Penn St. - OSU followed up with a win vs. Lindenwood? (2-0 for the week) - Shane Wetzel on fire!

In addition, the guys all pick their players of the week, along with matches to watch in Week 13-- and there are going to be some BRAWLS! We'll also do a brief conference update to cover the nation. We're even going to tackle a couple fan questions to close out the episode!

 

Episode 188, College Volleyball Weekly, Beach Top 20, ”Sandy Frog Takeover,” 3-22-23

This week we're invaded by FROGS! Sandy that is! Alana & Charlie were off the episode this week, but kindly stepping in is AVCA All-American and Spanish Olympic Team Hopeful, Dani Alvarez and mainstay Kate Privett of TCU. We briefly discuss the "March to May" Tournament in Gulf Shores and the "Surf and Turf" in Miami last weekend. We also chat about the little movements in the latter part of the CBVB and AVCA polls. Rob then hits the "Sandy Frogs" for the hot teams and athletes so far in 2023.

We close out Episode 188 asking the pair specifically about this year's success so far, team mentality and the new-look CCSA with Grand Canyon now in the mix!

Episode 187, College Volleyball Weekly, Men’sTop 15: 3-20-23

This week the CVW crew opens up with the CVW Inter-Panel match of the week between UCSD (Brad Rostratter) and No. 12 CSUN (Theo Edwards). From there we look at some of the top-15 matches that the panel's eyes. Of course, there were some unexpected outcomes-- and it's going to come down to conference tournaments and who's hot when it counts. We'll also touch on conference standings as well! 

As always, the crew closes out with the Coaches' Pick Player of the Week and matches to watch in Week 12 of the NCAA Men's Volleyball season!

Episode 186, College Volleyball Weekly, Beach Top 20, 3-16-23

Week 3 saw a few hot teams rise closer to the top like LMU and Tulane, in the recent AVCA and CollegeBeachVB.com polls, while other teams have maintained a steady winning trend like the "top 4" of TCU, USC, UCLA and FSU, and Arizona. In the discussion you have Cal pressing upward while the Stanford Cardinal are finding their way! Alana Rennie of Arizona, Charlie Ekstrom of Stanford and Rob Espero chat some of the top items of Week 3 while giving us the lowdown on what's to come in Week 4!

One-third of the season is complete and the heat is turning up as we head into a weekend of intense play with multiple top-20 teams going at it from coast to coast!

Episode 185, College Volleyball Weekly, Men’s Top-15 Fan Questions, 3/13/23

This week the CVW crew discusses the Outrigger Invitational briefly and some other matches that caught their attention in week 10. Afterwards, they launch into the first “Fan Question” episode of the season—and there were some good ones we’ll have to address in upcoming episodes (Thanks, listeners!). Questions, from recruiting, great volleyball memories, changes in the game to Jay’s golf game and Theo’s Gatorade fridge.

As always, the guys do their, “Coaches Pick: Player of the Week.”

Alana Rennie (Arizona), Charlie Ekstrom (Stanford) and Kate Privett (TCU) along with Rob Espero (@therobonthemic) discuss some of the MANY big duals and matches Week 2 of the young Collegiate Beach season had to offer. The No. 1 gets taken down by No. 4 creating a new No. 1 team in the nation. We'll talk about some of the conferences' weekly pairs-of-the-week recipients and conclude with top duals to watch this upcoming week!

This week the CVW crew tries something new: "Coaches Pick," where are coaches' panel pick the topics/matches/issues to discuss. The topics range from CRS/video review system, the 'Bows, Charleston, talking through the net, the "Catch and Throw" phenomena happening in the men's game and 5th-set, walk-off, ace winners.
