Episode 171, College Volleyball Weekly: Week 6 Recap, 2/13/23

Week 6 proved to be an intensley newsworthy week as the CVW Crew discuss the departure of Miles Partain from UCLA, BYU’s surge, the Matadors’ “magic,” the Warriors awakened from rest and the start of conference play for some teams around the nation. Additionally, the NCAA is down to 3 undefeated teams—No. 1 Hawaii, No. 5 GCU and No. 15 Charleston. How long will these unblemished records stand? Without a doubt these teams are playing high quality ball regardless of who their opponents may be.

As always, the crew picks out a few matches in Week 7 to keep your eyes on! #NCAAMVB

Week 5 proved to be a week full of upsets-- or not-- according to coaches' panel on CVW. But one thing was evident. Jay's Patriots beat Dan's Flyers for his first win! Episode 169: College Volleyball Weekly, Men’s Top 15, Week 4 Recap: 1-30-23

In this week's episode we have a surprise guest joining the CVW crew in place of Jay Hosck: his former employer, Mark Pavlik of Penn St.!

As always, we discuss the previous week's results along with some of the top peformers, but we also delve into the following topics:

•  Long Beach St. Containing the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley. Is LBS the real deal?
• Is Gianni back? If so, what difference will he make being that the 'Lopes are 6-0 and experiencing their best start in program history.
• Only 5 undefeated teams remain in the Top 15: Hawaii, UCLA, Long Beach St., Grand Canyon, and Loyola. Still too early or is this telling of what we could see in the National Chapionship Tournament?
• Just outside the top-15, Charleston is 7-0. What's happening in WV and what does that mean for the EIVA?

We finish out the episode by picking matches to watch in Week 5!

Key items: First Point Collegiate Challenge in Austin, TX; George Mason Tournament; Undefeated teams: good or bad indicators; top athletes of the week, "Unsung Heroes" as chosen by the coaching panel. Also discussed, how are panels' teams are doing so far. 

 

As always, we end by asking the panel of guys what matches they'll be watcing out for in Week 4 of #NCAAVB! 

 

 

 

Episode 167: College Volleyball Weekly, Top 15ish Week 2 Recap, 01-16-23 (On Viral Volley Media)

Theo Edwards of CSUN, Dan Friend of Lewis, Jay Hosack of George Mason and Brad Rostratter of UCSD jump on to talk about the week that was in results, top athlete performances and news related to National Championship volleyball. Key items: Penn St. and GCU are both undefeated-- WITHOUT PLAYING THEIR BIG GO TO GUYS! How are they doing it?!?! Also, @VolleyVenue on Instagram posted a graphic that stated that MPSF teams are 23-1 vs. other conferences. Could we see a resurgence of the MPSF this year?

Other miscellaneous items include Lewis' new "signee" and how Theo hasn't aged since 2010!

Episode 166: College Volleyball Weekly, Top 15 Week 1 Recap, 01-09-23

Episode 166 brings about the start of the the NCAA Men's National Championship Volleyball season. Even with top teams not starting or playing exhibition matches there was still plenty of Men's Volleyball happening!

Episode 165: CVW, Men’s D1-2 2023 Kickoff, Part 2; 1-4-23

Jay Hosack of George Mason, and Dan Friend of Lewis are back for another run around the sun, while Brad Rosstratter of UCSD and Theo Edwards of CSUN join on! Part 2 will look at the recently completed 2022 NCAA Women's D1 Volleyball Championship vs. the Men's D1-2 Championship at UCLA in May of 2022.

 

The guys then roll into their 2023 NCAA Men's D1-2 preview-- picking out "dark horse" Natty Contenders, athletes to keep an eye on across the nation, and matches to watch in Week 1! And of course, a little plug for the First Point Collegiate Challenge in January!

Episode 164: CVW, Men’s D1-2 2023 Kickoff, Part 1; 12-27-22

Jay Hosack of George Mason, and Dan Friend of Lewis are back for another run around the sun with Rob! Part 1 focuses on meeting the new crew of Brad Rostratter of UCSD and Theo Edwards of CSUN, while at the same time a guest appearance from former Pepperdine Men's Volleyball Coach, David Hunt-- who is now a National Champion at Texas on the Women's side. The older coaches offer some wisdom for the young guys.

The guys all jump in to discuss ALL the coaching changes and what's happening in D1-2 Men's Volleyball, Queens University over to the MIVA, a handful of teams jumping grom the EIVA to the newly formed NEC, and what this all means for NCAA tournament expansion for the Men's side. This week's College Volleyball Weekly crew adds special guest, Jaden Whitmarsh of UCLA Beach and "Athlete Life By Jaden" to discuss the first-ever fall exhibitions/competitions in collegiate beach volleyball. Although the access to results and information was limited we try our best to evaluate the results, along with the "inside chatter" and fold in our actual on-site experience at the events that we were in-person. Topics include the East Coast Championships, West Coast Championships, AVCA Pairs Championships, Relentless Collegiate Beach Challenge and a few others in AZ, FL and in CA!
